Musk Says SpaceXAI Will Rebrand to SpaceXSI After Trump’s AI Push

Elon Musk said on Sunday, October 4, that SpaceXAI, the AI unit of SpaceX, will be renamed SpaceXSI, following President Donald Trump’s push to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence.” Musk confirmed the planned SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI rebrand in a reply on X, saying the change would be made.
The announcement came days after Trump signed an executive order directing U.S. executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official communications, where permitted by law.
Musk posted “No more AI” and said “SI” was better. When a user asked whether SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI, Musk replied, “Yes, we will make that change.” He also wrote, “SpaceX is a super intelligence company.”
The Musk SpaceXSI name change has not yet been implemented across the company’s public platforms. Reuters reported that SpaceXAI’s X account had not been changed at the time of publication, while Musk gave no timeline for the rebranding.
Trump signed Executive Order 14434 on September 29. It instructs executive-branch agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, websites, reports, policy documents and other non-statutory communications. The order also defines SI for federal purposes using the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence.
Trump had promoted the terminology change before signing the order. He discussed alternative names including “superior intelligence” and “extreme intelligence” before settling on “super intelligence.” At the United Nations General Assembly in September, he said U.S. documents would use the new terminology.
The Trump super intelligence push does not require private AI companies to change their branding. Musk’s announcement therefore represents a voluntary corporate naming decision rather than a requirement under Trump’s executive order.
The timing and scope of the SpaceXAI company rebrand remain unclear. Musk has not announced when SpaceXSI will officially replace SpaceXAI across websites, social media accounts or other company materials. SpaceXAI also had not immediately responded to a Reuters request for comment.
The proposed change also raises the question of whether other major AI companies will adopt “SI” branding. For now, there is no indication that the terminology has broadly replaced “AI” across the technology industry.
